Planning Your Maternity Photoshoot in Clearwater or St. Petersburg
A little planning helps your maternity photos feel natural, flattering, and personal.
We’ll talk through the details before your session, including:
- The best time to schedule your maternity shoot
- Studio or outdoor location ideas
- Wardrobe, hair, and makeup
- Posing and comfort level
- Whether you want partner or family photos included
Most maternity photos are best around 28 to 36 weeks, when your bump is showing but you’re still comfortable.
For wardrobe, simple usually photographs best: flowing dresses, fitted gowns, soft textures, and clean colors. Try to avoid busy prints, tight waistbands, or anything that may leave marks on your skin before the session.
Outdoor maternity photos usually look best in the early morning or about 1 to 1.5 hours before sunset. Studio sessions offer more privacy, controlled lighting, and a polished look.
And don’t worry if you feel nervous or self-conscious. That’s normal. We’ll guide you through flattering poses and create maternity pictures you’ll be happy to look back on.
Studio and Outdoor Maternity Photography Options
Maternity sessions can take place in the Clearwater studio or on location within the local service area. Studio sessions are a good fit if you want privacy, controlled lighting, simple backgrounds, and a more polished portrait style.
Outdoor sessions are a good fit if you want a softer, more natural setting. Beaches, parks, gardens, and open spaces can work well when the light and weather cooperate. If you are unsure which option is right for you, we can talk through the look you want and help you choose the setting that makes the most sense.
Partners and children are welcome. Many maternity photoshoots include a mix of individual portraits, couple portraits, and family images.

Frequently Asked Questions About Maternity Photography
When is the best time to schedule maternity photos?
We recommend scheduling your maternity session when you are around 28-36 weeks pregnant
Should I choose a studio maternity session or an outdoor one?
Studio sessions offer more privacy and control. Outdoor sessions offer a different feel and depend more on weather and light.
Do you help with wardrobe for maternity sessions?
Yes. We can talk through what photographs well and what fits the style of session you want.
Can my partner or children be part of the session?
Yes, absolutely! Many maternity sessions include partners and children.
I don’t feel very photogenic right now. Will you help me pose?
Absolutely. Posing guidance is part of the session so you feel comfortable and look your best.
Do you travel?
We sure do! We’ve had the opportunity to serve our clients in New York City, Rhode Island, Georgia, Colorado, Kentucky, Las Vegas, and North Carolina.
Inclement Weather
If we find that weather is less than optimal, we reserve the right to reschedule your portrait appointment to our next available opening. During summer months, we typically book two dates in the event of rain.
Do you provide clothing for my shoot?
Unfortunately, no. It is the client’s responsibility to bring their own outfits. However, we can recommend places to shop.
How will I view my images?
After your session, we’ll schedule a studio viewing appointment where you can see your portraits in our projection room and place your order — please have all decision-makers present. Out-of-town clients can view online, though the studio experience gives a much better sense of color, cropping, and size.
What time of day is best for environmental portraits?
We recommend scheduling shoots for early morning or late afternoon.
Do you offer Newborn Photography?
Yes. We offer special pricing when both a maternity and a newborn session are booked.
When is the best time for Newborn Photography?
We recommend doing your newborn photoshoot when your baby is 10 – 14 days old.
Do you retouch (enhance) your portraits?
Yes. All ordered portraits are fully enhanced (removal of stray hairs, blemishes, wrinkles, whiten teeth, etc).
