Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Maternity Shoot
- Contact us a few weeks prior to your shoot so that we can discuss ideas for your shoot and allow time to arrange hair, makeup, and wardrobe
- We recommend scheduling your maternity session when you are around 28-36 weeks pregnant
- Think about your vision for the shoot. Do you want it in studio or on-location such as a park, beach, or an urban feel.
- Avoid wearing clothing that has large, complex, and distracting patterns
- Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothing right before your photoshoot to avoid marks on your belly (especially if you are planning a boudoir maternity session)
- Arriving 1-1.5 hours before sunset is the ideal time for an outdoor maternity shoot
- Don’t stress or overthink things – we are here to help in any way that we can. We will assist in clothing recommendations and do all of the posing.
- Don’t forgo maternity photographs because you feel self-conscious about your appearance, we want you to feel as comfortable and beautiful as you are, and commemorate this important time in your life

- We recommend scheduling your newborn session within the first 14 days of birth
- Think about your vision for the shoot. Do you want it in studio or in your home
- Avoid wearing clothing that has large, complex, and distracting patterns.
- Feed your baby 20-30 minutes before your session
- Prepare for fussy moments. You will want to have a few things ready such as a pacifier, bottle of formula / breastmilk, a few clean diapers, and a swaddling blanket
- Don’t stress or overthink things – we are here to help in any way that we can. We will assist in clothing recommendations and do all of the posing.
Frequently Asked Questions About Maternity Photography
What is your payment schedule?
Portrait sessions require a non-refundable retainer (session fee) upon booking. Ordered products require 50% with remaining 50% due upon pick-up. Digital orders require payment in full. Payment plans available.
Do you travel?
We sure do! We’ve had the opportunity to serve our clients in New York City, Rhode Island, Georgia, Colorado, Kentucky, Las Vegas, and North Carolina.
Inclement Weather
If we find that weather is less than optimal, we reserve the right to reschedule your portrait appointment to our next available opening. During summer months, we typically book two dates in the event of rain.
Do you provide clothing for my shoot?
Unfortunately, no. It is the client’s responsibility to bring their own outfits. However, we can recommend places to shop.
How will I view my images?
After the session we will schedule a time for you to come to the studio and view your portraits in our projection room. Please have all decision makers present at this time as the order must be placed at this time.
Online viewing is also available for clients who are out of town, though we recommend viewing your portraits in our studio. Our viewing technology gives you a much better idea of color and cropping, retouching, etc.
What time of day is best for environmental portraits?
We recommend scheduling shoots for early morning or late afternoon.
Do you offer Newborn Photography?
Yes. We offer special pricing when both a maternity and a newborn session are booked.
When is the best time for Newborn Photography?
We recommend doing your newborn photoshoot when your baby is 10 – 14 days old.
Do you retouch (enhance) your portraits?
Yes. All ordered portraits are fully enhanced (removal of stray hairs, blemishes, wrinkles, whiten teeth, etc).
