What You Can Expect From a Family Photoshoot with Jonathan Fanning

Our clients often describe their family portrait experience as effortless, refined, joyful, and timeless. Each session is thoughtfully designed to feel less like a photoshoot and more like an unforgettable experience shared with the people you love most.

To create unique images of your family, Jonathan likes to invite you to the studio or schedule a phone call to discuss ideas, talk about locations, and what to wear on the day of your session.

On the day of the photoshoot, we work at a relaxed pace so you don’t even realize you’re having your family portrait taken. This ensures you’re having fun and that the images are natural, allowing Jonathan to create unique pieces of art for your home.

Family portraits play an important role in building family history. We start by photographing the entire family together, then we move on to breaking up by groupings in any combination that you like!

Testimonials

“I have enlisted Jonathan’s expert photography skills and service several times over the past two years, and can say without reservation that I have been beyond completely satisfied with the process and its results.”  – Carolyn T

“I don’t know what to say. Thank you for capturing the most beautiful pictures I’ve ever seen. But that doesn’t convey the emotions I’m overwhelmed with when I look at them. Perhaps the proper words will come to me after I’ve had time to absorb them all.” – Allison M

“Jonathan is the best! He photographed my family of Four perfectly at Ft. Desoto. We have an 18 month and 3 1/2 year old. He kept things running smoothly and knew all the best spots to shoot at. He helped me print some larger prints for framing so I could gift them. They will be treasured forever. Thanks Johnathan <3” – Christie L.

Frequently Asked Questions About Family Photography

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, American Express, debit card, cash, or check.

Do you travel?

We sure do! We’ve had the opportunity to serve our clients in New York City, Rhode Island, Georgia, Colorado, Kentucky, Las Vegas, and North Carolina.

How will I view my images?

After the session, we will schedule a time for you to come to the studio and view your portraits in our projection room. Please have all decision-makers present at this time as the order must be placed at this time.

Online viewing is also available for clients who are out of town, though we recommend viewing your portraits in our studio. Our viewing technology gives you a much better idea of color and cropping. Additionally, we can adjust the size to give you a true idea of how your photographs will look on your walls.

Where can I have my family portraits taken?

Your family portraits can be taken in our studio or on-location such as a park, beach, your home, or a downtown setting. We are happy to send you samples of locations that we love to shoot.

What time of day is best for environmental portraits?

We recommend scheduling shoots for early morning or late afternoon.

Do you do mini-sessions?

At this time, I don’t offer mini sessions. I’ve found that a more personalized, unhurried experience allows me to create the elevated imagery and thoughtful experience my clients know and love. I want every session to feel relaxed, refined, and truly tailored to you — without feeling rushed.

Do you retouch (enhance) your portraits?

Yes. All portrait orders are fully enhanced (removal of stray hairs, blemishes, wrinkles, whiten teeth, etc).

What type of session is best for us: studio, outdoor, or in-home?

That depends on the look you want, the age of your children, and how much flexibility or control the session needs.

What should we wear for family or maternity photos?

Choose outfits that feel coordinated, comfortable, and true to your style without being too distracting.

What happens if the weather does not cooperate?

If we find that weather is less than optimal, we reserve the right to reschedule your portrait appointment to our next available opening. During summer months, we typically book two dates in the event of rain. Florida weather can be all over the place, and usually cannot make the final call until 24 to a few hours prior to the scheduled shoot.

Can grandparents, pets, or extended family be included?

Yes, absolutely! It is best to plan what various groupings you would like prior to the shoot.

What if my kids need breaks or are not in the mood right away?

That is part of family photography. The session is approached with patience and flexibility, so there is room for real life.
